Airspace Digital Twin

A living model of airspace.

A living state that remembers how it came to be what it is now.

Evidence levelE1Architecture Defined

A still view of an abstract airspace volume. Thin ellipse arcs cross at two fused tracks, and one unknown object stays grey. It shows no real place.

Your device shows a still view. The layers and the replay below carry the same meaning.

Data status: Synthetic dataSynthetic airspace volumeSynthetic demonstration image. It shows no real place.

A living state, not a 3D map.

The twin is the model the platform keeps of the airspace. The scene is only one way to look at it; the state underneath is what matters.

  • Live stateWhat the platform holds now, with the age of every part.
  • HistoryEvery earlier state stays, so a decision can be reviewed against what was known.
  • ContextTerrain, weather and the surroundings that change how an observation reads.
  • Confidence and evidenceHow sure the platform is, and what that rests on, kept as two different things.

Ten layers of one state.

Switch layers in the scene above or read each one here. A layer is a way of looking, not a separate system.

  • TW01Base environmentTerrain and built form, generalised so no real site is shown.
  • TW02Observations and sourcesWhere each source stands and what it has just seen.
  • TW03Tracks and unified stateOne track per object, drawn from the linked observations.
  • TW04Classification and contextThe class when there is one, and grey when there is not.
  • TW05ConfidenceA sheath around each track whose width is the confidence band.
  • TW06Evidence and provenanceThe drawer that shows what a state rests on.
  • TW07Environmental contextConditions that change how far an observation can be trusted.
  • TW08System healthWhether each source is available, delayed or silent.
  • TW09History and replayThe time slider and the stored states behind it.
  • TW10Network and integrationHow this site joins the wider network and the outputs.

Known then is not known now.

The twin stores each state as it was known at the time. Review can add what was learned later, but it never rewrites the earlier state.

Known thenOne source, a wide confidence band, the class left open.
Known nowA second source joined later and the band narrowed. Marked as hindsight.

What happened when CH17Data status: SimulationEvidence level: E0 · ConceptQuestion answered: What happened when?A timeline places five events in order and styles observed, inferred and unknown stretches differently. Time always runs from left to right, in every language.Limitation: A simulated sequence with invented events. It is not a historical record.

Replay a synthetic scenario.

Step through five moments of a fixed scenario and see which evidence was kept at each. The link below leads to the full replay capability.

Replay RD08Data status: SimulationEvidence level: E0 · ConceptQuestion answered: What was known at each moment?A replay line separates what was observed from what was inferred and what was unknown. Stepping forward or back reveals only what was known at that step.Limitation: A simulated sequence. It never shows predicted paths or knowledge gained afterwards.

Step 1 of 4Step 1

Three questions the twin answers.

How confidence changed, how the environment changed the reading, and how the state depends on the health of the system.

Confidence and its drivers CH04Data status: Synthetic dataEvidence level: E0 · ConceptQuestion answered: How did confidence evolveA line with a shaded band shows confidence rising when a new source joins and falling when one drops out. The band narrows as more sources agree.Limitation: The band is a drawn example of uncertainty, not a computed interval.

Environmental context CH12Data status: Synthetic dataEvidence level: E0 · ConceptQuestion answered: What environmental context applies?Three small plots, for wind, visibility and temperature, share one time axis so that conditions can be read against each other at the same moment.Limitation: Shapes are drawn examples. They make no claim about weather or any forecast.

System health over time CH07Data status: Synthetic dataEvidence level: E0 · ConceptQuestion answered: How has system health changed?Three bands, one for each of three example components, show normal, degraded and unavailable periods as different fills and patterns, so state never depends on colour alone.Limitation: Periods are invented and say nothing about any real component.

Expand without losing the local picture.

A twin of one site can join others. The local context stays as the picture grows to a region.

From site to region CH18Data status: IllustrativeEvidence level: E0 · ConceptQuestion answered: How does it scale from site to region?Four nested levels, site, local, district and region, show how detail is abstracted step by step as the view widens, with fewer marks at each larger level.Limitation: Levels are abstract. No real site, boundary or coverage is drawn.

What the twin does not do.

These limits apply to every view on this page.

  • The scene is syntheticNo real site, sensor or result is shown. The scenario is fixed and drawn for illustration.
  • Unknown is not zeroAn empty area means nothing was observed there, not that nothing is there.
  • Detection is not identificationA track can exist while its class stays open, and the twin leaves it open.
  • Designed to, not proven toThe twin is at an architecture-defined evidence level. It is not a statement of performance.
